BALTIMORE, MD – October 26, 2012 – Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG) is closely monitoring Hurricane Sandy to ensure it is able to maintain safe operation of Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (CCNPP), located in Lusby, Md., and ensure the safety of its Baltimore-based employees. CENG will use its top values of nuclear safety, personal safety and community commitment to guide its decision-making as Hurricane Sandy nears the mid-Atlantic.
As part of extensive safety, environmental and operational programs, CENG routinely monitors weather conditions and takes action to protect our three nuclear facilities, employees and neighbors. We are currently taking actions at CCNPP to safely stage and secure equipment, walk down the facility, and ready the structures and water systems for both rain and high winds. In addition, backup generators, equipment and staffing measures are ready in the event they are necessary.
CENG’s corporate headquarters, located in Baltimore, Md., is currently supporting the CCNPP team and ensuring the proper, safe decisions are made. Rigorous emergency plans are in place to deal with various adverse weather conditions, including hurricanes. CENG is also working closely with local, regional and state off-site partners to share information and ensure the public’s health and safety.
